EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors begin 2-Year Mission with Brussels summer camp

The second cohort of EU Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors officially began their two-year journey during a summer camp in Brussels, 3-4 July, 2025.

The event brought together almost 15 young leaders from across Europe to advance the circular bioeconomy and support the EU's green transition.

Through sessions on storytelling, digital communication, and misinformation, the Ambassadors explored the EU's bioeconomy strategy and its real-world applications. They also began designing a forward-looking plan to guide their activities over the next two years.

A key theme throughout the camp was the importance of connecting EU policy with young people and local communities. The bioeconomy must take root not only in Brussels, but across regions and Member States, with youth playing an active role as partners in driving sustainable change.

The camp also fostered a strong sense of shared purpose among participants. While each ambassador arrived as an individual, they left as a cohesive group, united by a common vision and collective commitment to the bioeconomy mission.

Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors' role & mission

Like the first cohort , the new Ambassadors are EU residents aged 20-30, united by their commitment for positive change and a shared passion for the bioeconomy.

With their joint expertise spanning biotechnology, circular economy, environmental science, food systems, forestry, and sustainable development, this passionate group will build on their knowledge and use their outreach skills to engage decision-makers, raise public awareness, and inspire citizens to support a sustainable, circular bioeconomy.

Throughout their two-year term, they will support the European Commission's efforts to:

  • promote a sustainable bioeconomy and elevate youth voices;
  • raise awareness and inspire young Europeans;
  • bridge EU policy with local communities by participating in key events and executing EU-supported projects;
  • engage in youth and educational programs.

Thus, as the European Commission develops a new EU Bioeconomy Strategy, the Ambassadors will be vital in executing and amplifying its goals.
