MACPAC Discusses Community Engagement Requirements Guidance

The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) met Dec. 11 for the first time since the government shutdown. Commissioners met to hear public presentations and lead public discussion about key Medicaid issues, including:

  • Community engagement requirements
  • Children with special health care needs
  • Medicaid managed care organizations accountability

MACPAC presented findings from stakeholder interviews on community engagement requirements and discussed findings with an expert panel. Caprise Knapp, principal deputy director for the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services, shared state feedback, noting concerns related to definitions, timelines, and information technology infrastructure. Stakeholders and commissioners generally agreed with these concerns.

MACPAC meets six times a year and submits reports to Congress in March and June. MACPAC' will start a new term and hold its next public meeting Jan. 29-30.
