Broken Arrow in Motion—Streets

Our street projects are rolling along in this episode of Broken Arrow in Motion. Here's an update on six current projects.

On the north side of the city, at the County Line Road Widening Project between Omaha and Albany streets, the contractors have completed the new waterline installation and are now installing a new gravity-flow sanitary sewer main east of County Line Road. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is managing the project with plans to widen the roadway to five lanes and widen the bridge. As they update the city, additional updates will follow.

Next, on Houston Street, a widening project is underway from Olive to Aspen. Working from west to east, the contractor is roughly halfway through installing curb and gutter and a storm sewer on the north side of Houston Street, which will set the width for the new five-lane arterial.

Also on Houston Street, another widening project is underway from County Line Road to Old Highway 51. The new waterline for this project is already installed and operational. A temporary widened section of the roadway was built to accommodate traffic during construction. Now, traffic has been shifted south, a storm sewer is under construction, and the dirt work is underway along the roadway's north side.

Next, on Main Street, the Streets Department has completed the mill and overlay all the way to Mason Drive. They are now painting the roadway markings on the new surface. This includes the revised pull-in parking from Veterans Park to Indianola Street. Concrete curb ramps are also being updated to ADA standards. The Utilities Department is making progress on its waterline replacement project along Main Street and expects to complete the work under the roadway by the end of July. Additional milling and overlay will continue south after the Utilities Department Construction crew completes the waterline installation.

In southwest Broken Arrow, here's an update on the Aspen Avenue Widening project. Two intersections are being improved: Aspen and Tucson, and Aspen and Jasper. At Aspen and Tucson, the contractor is finishing the stamped concrete at the westside corner of the intersection, with work beginning on the sidewalk at the northwest corner. At Aspen and Jasper, the contractor is laying asphalt on the west side and will next begin work at the southeast corner of the intersection. Soon after the intersections are completed, the widening of Aspen Avenue from Tucson to Jasper is expected to begin.
