Prescription Drug Take-Back Event Scheduled for October 24

A prescription drug take-back event is scheduled for residents to properly dispose of unwanted medications and prescription drugs on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosts a National Drug Take Back Day each April and October, where a total of 642,410 pounds of medication was collected nationwide for the past April's National Drug Take Back Day.

The initiative aims to reduce accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse that can result from unused or expired prescription medications. It is best to properly dispose of medications and not flush them down the toilet. Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to remove the chemicals found in many medications, and these chemicals could discharge into streams if medications are not disposed of properly.

All events will take place at the following locations:

• Elks Lodge Tulsa, 5335 S. Harvard Ave.
• Reasor's (Sharps Site), 7114 S. Sheridan Road
• Tulsa Crime Stoppers/Walmart Neighborhood Market, 4720 E. 21st St.
• Walmart Neighborhood Market, 3116 S. Garnett Road
• Walgreens, 1438 N. Lewis Ave.
• Walgreens Bixby, 15111 S. Memorial Drive
• Walmart Neighborhood Market, 1300 E. Albany St., Broken Arrow
• Walgreens Jenks, 210 S. Elm St.
• Reasor's Owasso, 11815 E. 86th St. N.
• Sand Springs Police Department, 602 W. Morrow Road
• Walgreens Sapulpa, 11 W. Taft Ave.

Residents should visit the sharps site at Reasor's, located at 7114 S. Sheridan Road, to properly dispose of medical sharps such as needles and syringes. For more information about the take-back event, please call the Center for Rural Health at (918) 688-3813.

Year-Round Drop-Off Locations
Unwanted prescription drugs are accepted at Tulsa Police Division headquarters and the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office throughout the year. Locations and hours are:
• Tulsa Police Gilcrease Division, 3436 N. Delaware Ave., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday
• Tulsa Police Mingo Valley Division, 10122 E. 11th St., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday
• Tulsa Police Riverside Division, 7515 S. Riverside Drive, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday
• Tulsa County Sheriff, 303 W. First St., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday
