NASEO to Work with Oregon and Michigan to Pilot Electric Fleet Engagement

NASEO will be working with the Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to accelerate medium- and heavy-duty (MHD) electric vehicle (EV) adoption, pilot proactive fleet engagement tactics, and deepen and steward relationships with freight operators and other fleets. The support follows NASEO's recent Request for Interest focused on helping State Energy Offices convene stakeholders and better understand fleet needs and barriers to electrification.

Through this effort, NASEO will support each state in launching a state-specific Electric Fleet (eFleet) Working Group that brings together early adopters of MHD EVs as well as "fast followers" interested in electrification. The working groups will prioritize two-way communication between state agencies and fleets, focusing outreach on businesses with vehicles and duty cycles ideal for electrification today-such as last-mile delivery and local/regional haul operations-while also engaging municipal fleets and other operators that may be well-positioned to electrify but have historically been overlooked by traditional freight outreach channels.

NASEO will convene each state's eFleet Working Group through an in-person kickoff workshop, complemented by virtual meetings. NASEO will also work with Oregon and Michigan to support the development of a state-specific "one stop shop" webpage hosted on each state's website. These pages will provide centralized resources for fleets seeking electrification information, including links to incentives, local dealers and service providers, charging options, and case studies and success stories.

The technical assistance is designed to generate practical, replicable approaches that can help other states strengthen fleet engagement and accelerate electric freight adoption. For more information, please contact NASEO's Transportation Program Lead, Jessie Lund at [email protected].
