63rd Street over the Ryan bridge repairs begin July 13

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying 63rd Street over the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 90/94), in Chicago, will begin, weather permitting, Monday, July 13.

To complete the work, the right lane on westbound 63rd Street will be closed approaching the bridge. The public also should expect various overnight lane closures on the outbound Ryan local lanes approaching 63rd Street. The sidewalk will remain open and access to the Chicago Transit Authority's Red Line station at 63rd Street will be maintained during construction.

Additionally, later this month, full closure of the outbound local lanes will be required to install steel beams over the expressway. Schedules and impacts to traffic will be shared closer to the closure dates.

The repairs are expected to be completed by the end of this month.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
