The Village of Richton Park currently provides a senior citizen discount for water usage and for the associated uses of the Village's wastewater (sanitary sewer) system, and has been offering the discount to anyone that meets the age requirement for many years.
Prior to the June 30th, 2025 Special Board Meeting, the Village Board reviewed the existing Senior Water Bill Discount, to determine the impact the general increase in the price level of goods and services has on the purchasing power of the village seniors.
After studying annual trends in the consumer price index, President Reinbold and Board of Trustees have determined that adjusting the Senior Citizen Discount rate is reasonable and is necessary to provide a measure of relief to Village senior citizens, many of whom live on fixed incomes. The new Senior Citizen Utility Bill Discount will now be increased to $20 per billing period, up from the prior discount of $16. This will help to offset the impact of rising prices of goods and services.
Moving forward, a twelve dollar ($12.00) total reduction on Senior water service charges shall apply to single-family residential premises occupied by users who are 65 years of age or older. Proof of age shall be required.
Also, an additional eight dollar ($8.00) total reduction in the sewer service charge shall apply to single-family residential premises occupied by users who are 65 years of age or older. Proof of age shall be required.
The Village board is hoping that this increase, will help to increase the purchasing power of our village seniors whom have been negatively impacted by inflation.
