TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is upgrading its Michigan network to deliver high-speed fiber internet connections across its Wolverine State service areas. The network upgrades will deliver a minimum of 100Mbps internet speeds and up to 8 Gigabit symmetrical connections.
"Our Michigan projects are part of our broader initiative to bridge the digital divide and ensure that residents and businesses have access to high-speed internet services," says Senior Vice President of External Affairs Drew Petersen. "This build-out will deliver next-generation fiber technology to thousands of locations, expanding fiber connectivity and supporting economic development."
The new internet infrastructure is a result of private investment by TDS and the Federal Communications Commission's Enhanced Alternative Connect America (E-ACAM) program. E-ACAM provides funding support for rural high-speed connections to select locations across the U.S with the expectation for project completion by the end of 2028.
TDS is investing additional dollars to expand the reach of the fiber upgrades. Ultimately, TDS will deliver faster speeds across its entire Michigan network. TDS' Michigan service territory includes Au Train, Augusta, Beaver Island, Bois Blanc, Bell Oak, Chatham, Clayton, Fostoria, Hickory Corners, Millington, Munger, Perry, Sand River, Sanford, Shaftsburg, Skandia, St. James, and Trenary.
The construction phase involves burying conduit as well as installing fiber cables underground and on poles. The upgrades will become available in phases as sections of the network are completed. TDS teams are working closely with local officials and stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption and maximum benefit for the communities served.
"We remain committed to delivering on our promise of expanding internet access and supporting economic development in Michigan," said Petersen. "Our builds represent a strategic effort to empower communities and foster growth through connectivity."
Updates will be provided as construction progresses. We encourage residents to visit TDStelecom.com/support/networkupgrades for more information and to learn more about TDS' Michigan network upgrades.
