UW’s Sogol to Chair National Accreditation Commission

Elliott Sogol, director of postgraduate education for the University of Wyoming's School of Pharmacy, has been elected to chair a national Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) commission.

Sogol will serve as chair of the Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) Commission. In this position, he will oversee the organization's role in reviewing the accreditation of pharmacy schools' continuing-education programs.

Sogol's term as commission chair will begin Jan. 1 and run through the end of the year.

"One of my goals is to look at the review process for those organizations who need more assistance meeting a few of the criteria/standards that are set by the commission," Sogol says. "I also look forward to working with the staff and commissioners to review our overall approval process for all accredited providers."

While his position as chair is largely remote, Sogol will travel to the ACPE's headquarters in Chicago three times in 2026 to meet with the CPE commissioners and to attend the ACPE annual meeting.

"ACPE is happy to announce Elliott Sogol as the new chair of the CPE Commission … they will guide the commission's efforts to support quality education, innovation and accountability in continuing pharmacy education," says Dimitra V. Travlos, assistant executive director of ACPE and director of CPE provider accreditation. "The (commission) was established to better serve the CPE program and to support the achievement of ACPE's mission to assure and advance the quality of pharmacy education."

Kem Kruger, dean and professor at UW's pharmacy school, part of the College of Health Sciences, says Sogol's election as CPE Commission chair reinforces the school's mission of providing students and alumni with top-tier educational experiences, including research and clinical work.

"Elliott's selection to chair the commission underscores his exceptional leadership, expertise in professional education and long-standing commitment to advancing the pharmacy profession," Krueger says. "His role as chair brings national visibility to the UW School of Pharmacy and reinforces our reputation as a leader in developing high-quality, innovative educational programs that support pharmacists throughout their careers."

"This prestigious national appointment underscores Dr. Sogol's leadership and his long-standing commitment to advancing the pharmacy profession," says Patrick Hardigan, dean of the College of Health Sciences. "In this role, he will help shape the future of continuing pharmacy education across the country, further elevating the visibility and impact of the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy."

Sogol has served as director of postgraduate education, which includes overseeing the Master of Science in Health Administration Program in the UW School of Pharmacy, for the past five years. Specialty tracks in the Master of Science in Health Services Administration Program offer mid-career training to health care professionals looking to expand career opportunities in areas such as risk management, regulatory/compliance and health care leadership.
