PHILADELPHIA (January 21, 2025) - Fox Chase Cancer Center is pleased to announce the hiring of Weiran Feng, PhD, as an Assistant Professor in the Nuclear Dynamics and Cancer Research Program and a member of the Cancer Epigenetics Institute (CEI).
The CEI at Fox Chase is a national hub committed to epigenetic studies and collaborations that focuses primarily on mechanisms that aid cancer and therapeutic resistance. The CEI promotes academic-to-industry and academic-to-academic relationships aiming to achieve further discovery in cancer epigenetics.
After earning his bachelor's in biological sciences from Peking University in 2011, Feng earned his doctorate at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center working in the laboratory of Maria Jasin, PhD, where he studied the mechanisms that maintain genome integrity during DNA replication.
Following his graduate work, Feng was a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Charles Sawyers, MD, in the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program at Sloan Kettering, where he identified cell context dependencies and vulnerabilities of the ERG oncogenic transcription factor in prostate cancer.
At Fox Chase, the Feng lab will focus on cancer biology and transitional research, specifically focusing on the mechanisms of prostate cancer development and therapy resistance. Its goal is to make mechanistic discoveries that drive the development of innovative cancer therapies to improve patient outcomes.
Feng has earned many honors throughout his career, including the Pathway to Independence Award, PCF Young Investigator Award, and the Department of Defense Early Investigator Research Award.
Fox Chase Cancer Center (Fox Chase), which includes the Institute for Cancer Research and the American Oncologic Hospital and is a part of Temple Health, is one of the leading comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. Founded in 1904 in Philadelphia as one of the nation's first cancer hospitals, Fox Chase was also among the first institutions to be designated a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1974. Fox Chase is also one of just 10 members of the Alliance of Dedicated Cancer Centers. Fox Chase researchers have won the highest awards in their fields, including two Nobel Prizes. Fox Chase physicians are also routinely recognized in national rankings, and the Center's nursing program has received the Magnet recognition for excellence six consecutive times. Today, Fox Chase conducts a broad array of nationally competitive basic, translational, and clinical research, with special programs in cancer prevention, detection, survivorship, and community outreach. It is the policy of Fox Chase Cancer Center that there shall be no exclusion from, or participation in, and no one denied the benefits of, the delivery of quality medical care on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity/expression, disability, age, ancestry, color, national origin, physical ability, level of education, or source of payment.
