HARRISBURG - Rep. Jack Rader (R-Monroe) today issued the following statement regarding the passage of the Pennsylvania state budget.
"This budget agreement includes many important policies that will propel Pennsylvania forward in a positive direction. It removes the biggest hurdle keeping Pennsylvania from increasing energy production and enhancing the reliability of our energy grid, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). This will unleash new job opportunities and help lower consumer energy bills.
"This budget also helps protect taxpayer dollars by ensuring programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid are going to those who need it most. The policies included in this budget help to prevent theft and fraud by requiring more diligent monitoring and reporting.
"As part of this budget deal, we are also ensuring that no students are falling through the cracks. We are expanding school choice opportunities by doubling the number of scholarships provided for economically disadvantaged students. This will create opportunities for students to go to a school that best meets their needs, allowing them to receive the education they deserve.
"This process has been a lengthy one; it's time we have a budget. While I would like it to have spent less, these policies make it a worthwhile budget deal for our Commonwealth."
