San Mateo County Parks is in the final stages of completing the new Flood Park playground, however the opening has been delayed while modifications to the playground are made in response to safety reviews. Safety is our top priority for park visitors and we want to ensure everything meets our standards before opening. The playground, originally expected to open in this spring is now projected to open in fall 2026.
The new playground will include a climbing tower, zip lines, slides, spinners and swings. Community input from children and adults guided the inclusive play design that also provides informal play space and an area for children ages 2 to 5. Construction of the playground as well as the baseball diamond and large multi-use sports field is Phase 2 of a multi-year renovation of the 90-year-old park. In 2025 new sports courts, including sand volleyball, basketball, and tennis and pickleball courts opened as did the bike pump track and revamped picnic areas.
