Portland City Council approves additional $1.6M for Portland arts organizations

Portland City Council approved a one-time allocation of Arts Tax funds to provide additional support for local arts organizations yesterday.

The Office of Arts & Culture is pleased to announce that 79 arts organizations will share $1,570,000 in additional funding this year in addition to the FY2025-26 grant awards announced last November. This special one-time allocation was made possible through a technical budget adjustment approved by Portland City Council on April 15, 2026. This allocated $1.6 million from the City's Arts Access Fund (seeded by the Arts Tax) to the Office of Arts & Culture, which will use the funding to provide additional support to organizations already participating in the City's General Operating Support program.
"Portland's arts organizations are essential to the life of this city," said Chariti Montez, Director of the Office of Arts & Culture. "They create connection, support local jobs, animate neighborhoods, and contribute to a more vibrant and welcoming Portland. This funding from City Council will help provide near-term stability for organizations that have experienced real financial losses and need support now."
Most organizations will receive $20,000 each. These additional grant awards bring the Office of Arts & Culture's total FY2025-26 grant investments to $5,767,500 - including $4,367,500 in General Operating Support for established arts organizations, and $1,400,000 in small grants to artists and arts organizations in partnership with Friends of IFCC, MusicOregon, and the Regional Arts & Culture Council.
