Mrs. Mansouri takes part in AU High-Level Ad Hoc Committee for South Sudan (C5)

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Bakhta Selma Mansouri, participated in the meeting of the African Union (AU) High-Level Ad Hoc Committee for South Sudan (C5) held in Juba, South Sudan.

The meeting aimed to monitor the revitalized peace agreement's implementation and enhance regional and international coordination to promote stability in this country, achieve peace and sustainable development.

The meeting also featured high-level participation from representatives of organizations and key partners including the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), as well as African ambassadors accredited to South Sudan.

Members of the C5 held talks with South Sudan's First Vice President Riek Machar, discussing challenges to the peace agreement's implementation.

They stressed the importance of enhanced cooperation between the different parties to resolve difficulties, move the peace process forward and secure security and stability in the country.

Speaking at the meeting, Mansouri emphasized that "fully and effectively implementing the revitalized peace agreement is crucial for achieving stability and national reconciliation in South Sudan.

She further underscored the imperative to activate the agreement's clauses which is seen as an essential step toward lasting peace and setting up favorable conditions for sustainable development and improved living standards for the people of South Sudan.
