How long did you work at FSU?

51 years

What 3 words can you use to describe FSU?

Family, friends, mentors

List any professional or personal accomplishments we can celebrate with you.

I was chair of the committee to form the original Women's Commission many years ago and served as its first president for three years. I served as numerous committee chairs on the state level with the Business and Professional Women of Maryland. I also served two terms as State Recording Secretary as well as State Chaplain for two and a half years. I held many offices in the Rotary Club of Frostburg, including two terms as president. Currently, I am a member of Soroptimist International of Frostburg where I have held various positions including president. I have been a long-time member of the UPMC Auxiliary where I most recently was recording secretary. I have served on the decorating and auction committees for Snow Ball for past several years. I am in my second term as president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Frostburg. I also received the Staff Award from FSU.

What do you do for fun or keeps you busy in retirement?

I am busy with my organizations, enjoy going to lunch or dinner with my former colleagues that I worked with and other friends, traveling, attending the Retirees Breakfast, and being able to go on a moment's notice when someone calls. Also spending time snuggling on the sofa with my fur baby - especially when it is cold and windy outside. I also enjoy volunteering for graduation and the Cultural Events Series. It allows me to still stay connected to FSU.

What was your favorite thing about working at Frostburg State University?

The people. I was so fortunate to work with so many wonderful people over the years who were more like family than supervisors. From Dr. James Cotton, who was my first supervisor when I began my career, to Dr. Ed Root '62/M'65, with whom I worked in several capacities for 26 years to Dr. Boyce Williams, who was my last supervisor and so many people in between that it would take me pages to name. I feel so blessed to have been able to call so many people at FSU friends and have had the privilege to have known and worked with them.

What advice would you give to current students?

Enjoy your time at Frostburg. It is a beautiful campus and has so much to offer. Get to know your professors and advisor because they are the greatest - they will help to make sure you are successful during your time on campus. You will receive a quality education!
