Reimagining West Texas Street for a Safer, More Livable Fairfield

The City of Fairfield is excited to announce the launch of the West Texas Complete Streets Project - a major street redesign that will improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life for everyone who travels through one of the city's busiest corridors.

Starting in June 2025, construction crews will begin work to transform West Texas Street from a five-lane road into a more balanced, three-lane street that better serves pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and drivers. Backed by $10.9 million in state grant funding, this project brings long-term benefits by encouraging more sustainable ways to get around and reducing serious traffic incidents.

You'll see big changes, including wider sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and landscaped buffers that make the street more inviting and safer for all. While there may be some initial traffic slowdowns as the community adjusts, the long-term goal is smoother flow and improved safety for everyone-not just drivers.

Construction will take place Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the City is committed to keeping disruptions to a minimum. We'll be sharing updates along the way, so residents and businesses know what to expect.
