SAN LUIS OBISPO - Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay), celebrating the Assembly's passage of AB 1008, aimed at supporting small business and economic development in San Luis Obispo County.

AB 1008 would authorize the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to issue up to 10 new on-sale alcoholic beverage licenses over a two-year period, bolstering business for local restaurants, wineries, and tourism spots along the Central Coast.

"AB 1008 is about increasing vital source of revenue for SLO County. This legislation supports our visitor serving businesses, restaurants and tasting rooms to expand their offerings," said Addis "while the federal government's erratic policies and tariffs create a downturn in tourism - a vital part of the Central Coast economy - I am proud to author legislation that will help our communities thrive."

AB 1008 is sponsored by the County of San Luis Obispo, and supported by a coalition of tourism and business organizations.

"Each year, nearly 7.5 million visitors are drawn to the beauty of San Luis Obispo County," said Supervisor Dawn Ortiz Legg (District 3), "Thanks to Assemblymember Dawn Addis and the passage of AB 1008, which provides Type 47 liquor licenses, the hospitality industry will now have expanded opportunities. This initiative supports small businesses and boosts local economic growth."

AB 1008 now moves to the State Senate for consideration.

Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
