One-way Traffic Control Scheduled for the State Route 1 Lagunitas Creek Bridge Replacement Project near Point Reyes Station

Temporary signal scheduled to be utilized starting on Monday, Aug. 10

Marin County - Caltrans is scheduled to begin one-way traffic control on the Lagunitas Creek Bridge Replacement Project on State Route 1 (Shoreline Highway) on Monday, Aug. 10. Work includes widening the overflow culvert and installing foundations for the new bridge within the roadway.

Traffic control will be in place from August until November 2026. The project will go into winter suspension and then return in spring 2027. The full closure of the bridge is scheduled for after Labor Day weekend in September 2027.

Once work begins, the trail head to Papermill Creek Trail near the bridge will be closed for the safety of residents and crews. The entrance to the trail at C Street will be open.

The project will replace the current Lagunitas Creek Bridge. In addition, the culvert north of the bridge will be widened to match the new bridge width. The new bridge will have wider shoulders and will provide sidewalk and curb ramps that will be ADA compliant.

This project plans to provide a long-term, sustainable solution, maintaining long-term local and regional connectivity for the surrounding communities in Marin County.

The Lagunitas Creek Bridge is located just south of Point Reyes Station and north of the intersection with Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, approximately four-tenths of a mile east of the San Andreas fault. It serves as a vital connection between communities north and south of Point Reyes Station for residents, tourists, delivery trucks, emergency responders, transit providers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians. The bridge, which was built in 1929, is a three-span structure with a total length of 152 feet.
