UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A Penn State World Campus graduate is one of Pennsylvania's newest auditors after earning a position through an intern-to-hire program. Lindsay Mitchell earned a bachelor of science in accounting in May 2024. Today, Mitchell works in the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General.

The Department of the Auditor General created the Intern-to-Hire program in 2022 to create a pathway to full-time employment for students and recent graduates from Pennsylvania higher education institutions.

Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy L. Defoor praised Mitchell's preparedness for the work force.

"Students like Lindsay are the future of our department, and we couldn't be happier to have her expertise on our team," Defoor said.

Mitchell is from Altoona, Pennsylvania, and chose Penn State World Campus to continue her education. She enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Accounting program, led by the Penn State Harrisburg School of Business Administration, which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The accreditation is reserved for the top 5% of business schools in the world.

In partnership with the Penn State Harrisburg School of Business Administration, Penn State World Campus has offered the undergraduate accounting program since 2015.

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree is a 120-credit program where students can learn how to conduct audits, practice business ethics, develop critical thinking and communication skills, and prepare for the CPA exam. Graduates from the program go on to work in nonprofits, industry, or public service like Mitchell.

"I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to continue working with the department, and I hope to continue serving the people of the Commonwealth for many more years," Mitchell said.
