Palmdale Invites Residents to Share Feedback on Local Road Safety

PALMDALE, CA - The City of Palmdale invites residents to comment on the draft Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP) and share their thoughts on roadway safety in the community.

"I strongly encourage our residents to read the draft LRSP and share feedback to help the City create safer streets," said Mayor Austin Bishop. "This plan will help the City implement effective roadway safety strategies based on your concerns, making our transportation network better for everyone."

The LRSP's main goal is to create a roadmap for safety improvements in the community. The City has looked at past data and trends and gathered community input to draft a plan that prioritizes areas of concern within the City's transportation network.

Other important goals of the draft plan include identifying high-risk areas for accidents, illustrating the importance of a comprehensive safety program, planning future safety improvements for the near-, mid- and long-term and defining projects for future funding consideration.

The City is particularly interested in feedback on three specific areas: addressing aggressive driving and congestion (pg. 14), enhancing pedestrian safety in school zones (pg. 16) and improving safety at intersections without traffic signals (pg. 18).

"By encouraging the community to comment on the draft LRSP, we are sending a message that we value your opinions and want you to share your pressing traffic concerns," said Mayor Pro Tem Richard J. Loa. "This plan prioritizes the well-being of our children, drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. We look forward to your input as we work together to create a safer Palmdale."

Depending on public feedback, the City may implement various safety measures, such as building roundabouts, improving road markings, adding high-visibility cross walks, installing rumble strips and creating separated bike lanes and sidewalks. These changes aim to enhance road safety for motorists, bikers and pedestrians.
