National Public Service Week is an opportunity to recognize the dedicated public servants who serve Canadians every day-and to express our gratitude for the work you do on behalf of our country.
As a Member of Parliament in Ottawa, I am especially proud to represent many members of Canada's public service. As Minister of National Defence, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the extraordinary contribution that public servants make to Canada's security, sovereignty, and success.
At National Defence, public service carries a unique responsibility. Every day, you work alongside members of the Canadian Armed Forces in support of a mission larger than any one individual. Together, you help defend Canada, protect our interests, and uphold the values that define us as a nation.
Whether you are developing policy, advancing research, delivering procurement projects, supporting operations, strengthening readiness, managing infrastructure, or providing essential corporate services, your expertise makes our mission possible. Much of your work takes place behind the scenes, away from public attention. Yet its impact is felt across the country and around the world.
Every capability delivered, every project advanced, every decision informed, and every operation supported reflects the dedication and professionalism that you bring to your work. The strength of Canada's defence institution depends not only on the equipment we field or the operations we undertake, but on the talent, judgment, and commitment of the people who make those efforts possible.
At a time of growing global uncertainty, Canada's role has never been more important. We are strengthening our military capabilities, investing in our defence industrial base, modernizing continental defence through NORAD, and meeting our commitments to NATO and our Allies. These are significant national undertakings-but they become reality because of your dedication, professionalism, and leadership.
You are helping build the capabilities that keep Canadians safe. You are strengthening Canada's position as a trusted Ally and reliable partner. You are ensuring that the Canadian Armed Forces have the tools, support, and resources they need to succeed wherever they serve.
Public service is not always easy. It demands excellence, resilience, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to the public good. It requires you to navigate complexity, embrace change, and deliver results in an increasingly challenging world. Time and again, you meet those expectations with professionalism, integrity, and purpose.
The Defence Team's achievements are built on your expertise and your commitment to service. You are the backbone of our institution and an indispensable part of Canada's defence and security.
During National Public Service Week, I want you to know that your work matters. It matters to the members of the Canadian Armed Forces who rely on your support. It matters to our Allies who count on Canada as a dependable partner. Most importantly, it matters to the millions of Canadians who place their trust in us to keep our country strong, secure, and prepared for the future.
Public service is ultimately an act of trust. Canadians may never know every challenge you solve, every problem you prevent, or every success you help make possible. But they benefit from your work every day. Through your dedication, you help ensure that Canada remains secure, resilient, and ready to meet whatever lies ahead.
For that, and for all that you do, you have my deepest respect and gratitude.
It is an honour to serve alongside you as we strengthen our Defence Team, safeguard our country, and build a stronger Canada for generations to come.
Thank you for your service to Canada.
David J. McGuinty
