The Ministry of Defence of the Government of the Republic of Serbia announced that a member of the Serbian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Milošević, has taken over the position of Head of the Golan-Damascus Observation Group in the United Nations Truce Supervision Mission (UNTSO).
This is a new position for members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the peacekeeping operation in the Middle East, and as Head of this group, the Serbian Armed Forces officer will be responsible for the work of the United Nations military observers who are tasked with reporting on events that lead to or may lead to a violation of the 1973 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel.
The Golan-Damascus Observer Group is part of the Golan Observer Group in the UNTSO peacekeeping operation, but is under the operational control of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Mission (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been deploying military observers in the Middle East mission since 2012, and by participating in peacekeeping operations, both of the United Nations and the European Union, the Serbian Armed Forces contribute to preserving peace in the world and strengthening the reputation of our country, while at the same time confirming its ability to deploy forces and resources in the international environment, the statement said.
