Bowie State Hosts Akwasidae Kesie Festival Celebrating Ghanaian Culture

Bowie State University hosted the Akwasidae Kesie Festival on Sunday, Aug. 30, welcoming His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Asante Kingdom in Ghana, to Bulldog Stadium. The festival served as the grand finale of Millennium Excellence Week America 2026, which brought together influential voices in government, business and investment in the Washington, D.C. area.

Bowie State President Aminta H. Breaux extended Bulldog hospitality as she greeted His Majesty, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and Prince George's County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy, along with other dignitaries and members of the regional community.

The festival was filled with culture, music, food, vibrant colors and celebratory fun. A Bowie State celebration has to include the Symphony of Soul and the marching band did not disappoint the already festive crowd of approximately 3,000 people.
