On January 21st, Ambassador Liu Weimin met with Hon. Saimone Vuki and Hon. Esafe Latu, two newly elected People's Representatives from Ha'apai 12 and 13 Constituency. The two sides held friendly exchanges on issues including the development of Ha'apai, sub-national cooperation between two countries.
Ambassador Liu congratulated the two MPs on their election, noting that in November last year, His Majesty King Tupou VI successfully visited China. The visit achieved fruitful results and elevated the relationship between the two countries to a new height. China is willing to work with Tonga to actively implement the outcomes of the King's state visit to China, continuously deepen practical cooperation between the two countries, and strengthen the sister city ties between Dongguan City and Ha'apai. He also elaborated on the historical context of the Taiwan question and the one-China Principle.
Hon. Saimone Vuki and Hon. Esafe Latu expressed gratitude for China's long-term assistance and support to the Tongan people. As newly elected People's Representatives, they will firmly uphold the one-China Principle, and look forward to strengthening sub-national cooperation between Ha'apai and Dongguan City to promote sustainable development of Ha'apai.
