The Damascus branch of Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will close its doors at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, for an extensive renovation project. Located at 9701 Main Street in Damascus, the library is expected to remain closed for approximately 20 to 22 months. Plans are to reopen in fall 2026.
The renovation will include significant updates to both the library and the senior center that shares the building, as well as improvements to the shared common areas. This project is expected to take longer than typical library renovations and will focus on improving accessibility, comfort and functionality for all visitors.
Key improvements include:
"This renovation is a major investment in the future of Damascus," said County Executive Marc Elrich. "By improving both the library and senior center, we are enhancing the experience for our residents and ensuring these spaces serve future generations. These updates will help us provide a vibrant, inclusive community space."
During the renovation, patrons are encouraged to visit nearby library branches. All digital services and resources will remain available on the MCPL website. For more information about the renovation project and updates during the closure, visit the Damascus Library Refurbishment website.
