Boise Celebrates Significant Geothermal Donation

March 24, 2025

BOISE - The City of Boise received a historic donation of geothermal water rights from the Harris family, potentially quadrupling the city's geothermal system. The Harris family's contribution bolsters Boise's position as a global leader in sustainable geothermal energy and highlights the community's shared commitment to environmental stewardship.

Mayor Lauren McLean expressed the city's gratitude for the donation. "The Harris family's generosity will have a lasting impact for generations," she said. "This gift ensures that more Boiseans will have access to this incredible renewable energy source that cleanly warms our buildings."

The Harris family, long-standing community members and advocates for clean energy, emphasized their desire to contribute to a greener future for Boise. "Our family has deep roots in Boise, and we are honored to carry forward our parents' legacies of supporting a thriving community," said Millie Davis, daughter of Dallas and Alta Harris and the Harris family representative. "They had a deep love for Boise and the natural environment that shapes our city. On behalf of my siblings and our entire family, we are proud to donate geothermal rights to significantly expand the city's capacity and benefit the broader community."

Boise's geothermal utility, one of the largest and oldest in the nation, provides renewable energy to nearly 100 buildings in downtown Boise.
