The Greensboro Public Library is hosting an Autism Acceptance Celebration on Saturday, April 11, from 2-4 pm at the Glenn McNairy Branch, 4860 Lake Jeanette Rd. This is an inclusive event open to everyone of all ages and the theme is vehicles.
There will be sensory-friendly crafts and activities, including sensory bins, sensory bottles, and a toy vehicle play area. Several City of Greensboro vehicles will be in the library's parking lot for children to visit including a fire engine, a police car, a recycling truck, a CCTV truck from Greensboro Water Resources, and the EcoBus from Greensboro Parks and Recreation.
Representatives from local organizations and City of Greensboro departments will share information about autism resources in the community. Participating organizations include The Arc of Greensboro, Autism Society of North Carolina, Autism Unbound, City of Greensboro Parks and Recreation Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation, Guilford County Schools Exceptional Children Services, Legs Financial, Special Olympics Guilford County, and more. The Greensboro Woman's Club will be providing volunteer support at the event.
The Autism Acceptance Celebration is part of Greensboro Public Library's series of All Abilities programs. Offered monthly, the All Abilities programs strive to make the library more accessible to young people with special needs. Programs include sensory storytime, outdoor water play, sensory movies, craft programs, and Bingo.
