Organizations Help Power American Red Cross Disaster Relief

Following months of extreme weather - including record-breaking heat waves, widespread flooding and destructive wildfires - families and communities are turning to the American Red Cross for support now more than ever. September is National Preparedness Month, and the Red Cross is recognizing 165 corporations and organizations that help power its readiness, relief and recovery efforts as members of the Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) and Disaster Responder Program.

ADGP and Disaster Responder Program members - along with their employees and customers - contribute financial and in-kind donations year-round, enabling the Red Cross to prepare ahead of disasters and respond swiftly when emergencies strike. These annual commitments are critical to ensuring the Red Cross can deliver help and hope in times of crisis.

According to recent research, most Americans believe extreme weather poses a growing threat to their communities. The increasing frequency and severity of disasters - from stronger hurricanes and heavier rainfall to prolonged heat waves and historic wildfires - continue to drive demand for Red Cross services.

"After another year of relentless and compounding disasters, I want to express my deep gratitude to our ADGP and Disaster Responder members," said Cliff Holtz, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. "Their proactive support allows us to respond immediately - offering shelter, food, emotional support and more to families affected by these emergencies."

The Red Cross responds to an average of about 65,000 disasters across the country each year. Thanks to the ongoing investments from ADGP and Disaster Responder Program members, the organization is equipped to act before these crises occur - prepositioning supplies, training volunteers and maintaining readiness. These forward-thinking partners help ensure the Red Cross can meet urgent emergency needs and support long-term recovery for impacted families.

As of September, the U.S. has already experienced several major disasters this year, including unprecedented wildfires, tornado outbreaks and flash floods. In response, the Red Cross continues to expand its capacity to serve those in need.

Despite the rise in large-scale disasters, the nation's most common emergency remains home fires. With support from ADGP and Disaster Responder Program members, the Red Cross not only responds in the wake of these emergencies but also helps families prepare. The Home Fire Campaign - a key preparedness initiative - has saved more than 2,460 lives since its launch in October 2014.

Disasters can happen anytime and anywhere, and National Preparedness Month is the time to take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones. Make a plan to stay safe, gather important supplies and know how you'll stay connected if the unexpected happens.
