HARRISBURG - With the 2025-26 legislative session nearing its conclusion, state rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) is calling attention to the failure of the Pennsylvania House Government Oversight Committee to organize and begin its work, questioning how the majority party can claim to support accountability while allowing a committee created for that very purpose to remain inactive.
Grimm Krupa was proud to be appointed to the committee and publicly announced the appointment, believing it would provide an important opportunity to hold executive agencies accountable and ensure that the laws passed by the Legislature are properly implemented.
Instead, as the session draws to a close, the committee has yet to organize.
"I was proud of this appointment because I believed this committee could make a real difference for the people of Pennsylvania," Grimm Krupa said. "There is no shortage of issues in state government that deserve scrutiny. We could have used this committee to ask tough questions, investigate problems and make sure executive agencies are following the law. Instead, we got nothing."
Grimm Krupa placed responsibility on the House majority and committee Chairwoman Morgan Cephas (D-Philadelphia), emphasizing that it was her individual responsibility as chairwoman to call an organizational meeting and get the committee prepared to work. She also sharply criticized the Democrat-controlled House leadership for failing to refer any matter to the committee for review, further undermining its ability to carry out its intended purpose.
"Nobody trusts government anymore, and frankly, why should they?" Grimm Krupa said. "We create committees, announce their purpose and tell the public we are serious about accountability. But when it comes time to do the actual work, nothing happens. It is yet another dog-and-pony show while the people who pay the bills are left wondering who is looking out for them."
Grimm Krupa stressed that legislative oversight is not simply a procedural formality. It is an essential responsibility of the General Assembly, particularly when executive agencies make decisions that affect taxpayers, families, businesses and local communities.
"When the Legislature fails to use the tools available to hold government accountable, we fail the people we were elected to represent," Grimm Krupa said. "The people of Pennsylvania deserve more than political promises and theatre. They deserve transparency, accountability and a government that actually works for them."
