Fire Services recognized for work during October accident

Members of the Newton County Fire Service were recognized for their efforts during a recent call for a vehicular accident by the Board of Commissioners during the Nov. 4 Regular Meeting.

Newton County Fire Chief Royce Turner relayed to commissioners the work performed by the men and women of Engines 7, 8 and 9, along with the Incident Commander on the night of Oct. 26.

Fire personnel arrived on the scene of a crash at Mount Zion Road involving a truck and an ambulance.

The team from Newton County Fire extracted three people from the wreckage, who were then transported to Grady Hopsital.

"The fact that they arrived at Grady under such critical condition is a testament of the outstanding training, dedication and life-saving capabilities of the Newton County Fire Service," Turner said. "Because of their efforts, all three patients had the best possible chance of recovery and their lives were saved."
