UW President Launches ‘UWyo Spotlight’ Podcast

The University of Wyoming has launched a new podcast, "UWyo Spotlight," with Associated Students of UW President Sam Kaiser joining UW President Shane Reeves for the inaugural episode.

The monthly podcast will feature conversations with students, faculty, researchers, alumni, Wyoming leaders and others whose work and experiences help tell the story of the University of Wyoming and its role in the state.

"UWyo Spotlight is an opportunity to shine a light on the remarkable people and ideas that make the University of Wyoming special," Reeves says. "We have students doing extraordinary things, faculty conducting research that is making an impact in Wyoming and around the world, and alumni and partners who are helping shape our state and our future. I want this podcast to give people a chance to hear those stories directly from the people who are living them."

The podcast also will provide a forum for conversations about the university's role as Wyoming's flagship and land-grant university, its connection to the people and industries of the state, and the opportunities and challenges facing Wyoming.

Future guests are expected to include UW faculty members involved in cutting-edge and applied research; students engaged in research, service, athletics and other experiential learning; Wyoming elected and industry leaders; prominent alumni and donors; and leaders from business, technology and other fields.

The first episode focuses on the UW student experience, with Kaiser offering his perspective on what makes the university distinctive and what students expect from their college experience.

"Starting the podcast with a student was an intentional choice," Reeves says. "Sam has a unique perspective. He knows UW as a student, but he also has the responsibility of representing his fellow students. I want him to help me -- and everyone listening -- see the University of Wyoming through the eyes of a student."

During the conversation, Reeves and Kaiser discuss what brought Kaiser to UW, his experience becoming involved in student leadership, the opportunities available to UW students and what it means to be part of Wyoming's university. They also discuss the university's connection to the state and what students hope to see from UW in the future.

"I hope UWyo Spotlight becomes a way for people to discover something new about UW every month," Reeves says. "Whether it's a groundbreaking research project, a student who is making a difference, a Wyoming leader with an important perspective or an alum who is doing remarkable things, there are stories here that deserve to be heard."

The podcast is part of a broader effort to connect the university with its many audiences, including current and prospective students, faculty and staff, alumni, the people of Wyoming and national and international audiences interested in the work of the state's flagship and land-grant university.

Episodes of UWyo Spotlight will be available on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts, all of which can be accessed here. Episodes also will be promoted through UW's institutional social media channels and Reeves' social media platforms.
