In August 2023, the City Council made the difficult decision to permanently close the existing pool facility at Cal Oaks Sports Park. The 33-year-old pool, originally built by a developer in 1990, prior to the incorporation of the City of Murrieta, had numerous mechanical and structural issues.

The City immediately began the process of reimagining, redesigning, and reconstructing a new aquatics facility at the same location that will bring exciting new features, new programming and classes, and the possibility of expanding pool operations from just 3 months to year-round.

The project is temporarily on hold pending the identification of appropriate funding sources.
