UNESCO and the Government of Greece reaffirm their commitment to culture

The prize, which includes a US$30,000 award, was presented to Taita Christopher Adimosele, Chairman of the Mount Kulal Community Forest Association. The Wazee we Mazingira have long protected Mount Kulal's forests, water, and biodiversity through community governance and customary laws.

The Elders blend traditional practices such as rotational paddocking, and water-harvesting swales with modern conservation methods. Their efforts sustain the mountain's ecosystems, preserve cultural heritage, and support local livelihoods through ecotourism, beekeeping, and medicinal plant use. Amid climate and development pressures, their stewardship keeps Mount Kulal's ecological and spiritual legacy alive for future generations.
