FEMA Announces Nearly $5 Million for Georgia Recovery

ATLANTA - FEMA announced nearly $5 million in funding for six recovery and mitigation projects to help Georgia communities recover from COVID-19, Hurricane Helene and other disasters.

This funding is part of more than $348 million that FEMA announced for almost 170 projects nationwide.

FEMA is awarding more than $1.5 million for two Public Assistance projects to reimburse Georgia for the costs of emergency protective measures and management costs. The projects are:

• $1 million to Excelsior Electric Membership Corporation for emergency protective measures following Hurricane Helene.
• $499,000 to Piedmont Hospital, Inc. for disaster management costs from COVID-19.

FEMA is also awarding more than $3 million through FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for projects in Georgia that will prevent, eliminate, or reduce future disaster-related damage. Notable projects include:

• Nearly $2 million to the city of Savannah for its Stormwater Master Plan.
• More than $520,000 to the state for a generator and emergency power project.
• More than $185,000 to White County for warning sirens.

These projects are the latest examples of billions of dollars in disaster recovery provided by FEMA to support state and local communities as they work to rebuild from recent natural disasters.
