Five highschoolers take on the role of 'commissioner for a day'
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL. -- Tuesday, five Clay County high schoolers took on the role of commissioner for a day as part of Commissioner John Sgromolo's ongoing program to get teens involved in local government.
The students hailed from across the county, and visited local elected officials, law enforcement, fire rescue, and emergency management.
They ended the day with a mock budget workshop, where they had to 'pass' a balanced budget.
The teens were selected through a countywide application process.
This is the third time Clay County has welcomed high school teens to see what it's like to be a commissioner for a day.
