Since 2023, CoreCivic has completed several projects aimed at improving our facilities through upgraded furniture, trauma-informed paint colors, housing unit layout designs, visitation rooms, sound absorption panels, and much more. These facility upgrades are part of CoreCivic's normalization efforts-broadly referred to as Project Vista at CoreCivic-featuring details that play a role in creating environments and daily routines within our facilities that mirror the community and free world as much as possible.
A recently completed project at Red Rock Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona, is offering incarcerated students enrolled at Arizona State University (ASU) access to a newly renovated multi-use classroom-an improved environment to foster personal growth and transformation. This refreshed space for students now accommodates meaningful activities like learning, studying and public speaking, as well as therapeutic activities like art, chess, and meditation. The Project Vista team added modular furniture to the space for a flexible design, an ASU-inspired color theme, sound panels for noise reduction, photo murals, circadian lighting sources, regional art on the walls, natural finishes, collaborative work areas, and a dedicated office space that can be used for academic assessments for students.
Every project completion, such as this classroom at Red Rock, reinforces CoreCivic's commitment to providing residents spaces for holistic rehabilitation while reflecting the free world as much as possible. CoreCivic's Project Vista design principles-normalization, biophilia, carceral geography, and trauma-informed color and design-will continue to be woven into the fabric of CoreCivic's facilities.
