FedChoice Steps Up Relief Efforts as Government Shutdown Continues

As the federal government shutdown continues through its fourth week, FedChoice Federal Credit Union continues to provide significant, tangible support to its members employed by federal agencies. To date, the credit union has demonstrated robust financial flexibility and is now ramping up efforts further.

To assist members - both current and new - directly impacted by lost income, FedChoice has already:

Approved nearly $1,000,000 in Furlough loans to help members navigate this financial uncertainty.Allowed members to skip over 225 loan payments for various loan products.

"FedChoice was built by and for Federal employees. Our mission has always been to serve members through good and tough times," said Brett Noll, President/CEO. "Federal employees are facing challenges now and we stand ready to help get them to the other side of this situation."

Expanding Support: Free Lunch Event and Food Drive

Beyond financial accommodation, FedChoice is taking direct action to address immediate needs through community partnerships.

FedAssist Lunch & Learn: On Tuesday, November 4th, at its Lanham location. To ease the burden on federal employees, FedChoice, working with food trucks Kush and Blue Nile Burgers, will provide a free meal for the first 150 registered attendees.

Friendly staff from FedChoice will be on hand to discuss membership and Furlough Assistance loans. Attendees can also access external support: signups for financial planning will be available through the Foundation for Financial Planning, and local mental health organization Transcend Clinical Services will offer free mini consultative strategy sessions to help navigate this stressful time.

To receive lunch and access on-site support, registered employees only need to show their government badge or furlough letter.

Food Drive to support Capital Area Food Bank: The credit union is hosting a food drive to support the Capital Area Food Bank, which has been vital in assisting federal employees during this ongoing lapse in pay. Donations can be made at the Headquarters location or the Brentwood location from Monday, November 3rd, through Monday, November 17th.
