From “Where the Boys Are” to the Walk of Fame: Fort Lauderdale Remembers Connie Francis

Legendary singer and actress Connie Francis has passed away, leaving behind a timeless legacy that touched hearts across generations and around the world. Her breakout role in the 1960 film "Where the Boys Are" became an iconic moment in pop culture, bringing Fort Lauderdale international fame.

In 2010, the City established the Fort Lauderdale Walk of Fame at the inaugural Great American Beach Party, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film. Connie Francis was its first honoree and received a special tribute from the City Commission for her lifelong contributions as an ambassador of Fort Lauderdale.

Mayor Dean Trantalis shared:
"I'm saddened to hear the news of Connie Francis' passing. She had a remarkable career in song and film, capped with her great performance in Where the Boys Are. That iconic movie and her role provided a tremendous boost to Fort Lauderdale's fame in the mid-20th century and spurred tourism for decades to follow. I was honored to have known her. She will be greatly missed."

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones, friends, and fans.
