Grocery Access Pilot with Instacart

Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Health announced a new partnership with Instacart and Martha's Table to launch a groundbreaking new Grocery Access Pilot (GAP) program. This program is designed to improve access to nutritious food for low-income families and those living in wards with limited access to food options through the power of online grocery delivery.

Through the DC GAP program, 1,000 eligible residents will receive a complimentary Instacart+ membership for a full year, plus monthly funds to cover delivery and service fees. Participants will be selected based on their enrollment in specific DC SNAP-Ed or Martha's Table classes that reach residents in Wards 7 and 8.

Residents participating in SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education Classes through the University of District of Columbia, Sorogi, the YMCA or Martha's Table may be eligible. If you want to learn more, please e-mail [email protected]

DC Health Expands Vaccine Access in the District

You Said: As we enter the 2025-2026 respiratory disease season, many residents may be unable to access updated COVID-19 vaccines at District pharmacies.

We Did: DC Health worked with the Council of the District of Columbia to pass legislation to allow residents to access safe and effective vaccines, such as COVID-19 vaccine, at District pharmacies. This legislation allows the Director to update eligible vaccines in the future more quickly.

Next Steps: DC Health will promote the importance of immunization across the District and work to ensure access is maintained going forward. Read more here.

Advancing Health Literacy in the District

DC Health worked with community partners to help residents access and understand health information through the Advancing Health Literacy Grant. Together, we improved communication between providers and communities, making it easier for residents to make informed health decisions.

Through the collaborative work of the HEAL Program at American University, Urban Outreach, and Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, they strengthened how health information reached residents where they were. Their collective work is showcased in Voices of Wellness: Community Collaboration in Action. By bridging faith, academia, and community outreach, the partnership fostered trust, promoted wellness, and uplifted the power of representation in health communication.

Exciting Opportunities for Veterinary Technicians

DC Health has launched a new online registration application system for vet techs and euthanasia techs! The deadline to register is December 31st.
