Schmitt Cheers Committee Passage of His Bipartisan Protect College Sports Act

Bill Includes Schmitt's Provision to Grow Revenue, Allow Schools to Collectively Pool Media Rights

U.S. SENATE - U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) today released the following statement after his bipartisan Protect College Sports Act passed out of the Senate Commerce Committee with strong bipartisan support.

"We're moving the ball down the field-our bipartisan Protect College Sports Act to fix the chaos in the current college sports system is heading to the Senate floor. Our bill protects student athletes, addresses the transfer portal issue, allows schools to pool their media rights to raise revenue, and ensures the institution of college sports will be around for generations to come. This isn't a red jersey versus blue jersey issue, and I look forward to our bill continuing to receive strong bipartisan support as it heads to the floor," said Senator Schmitt.

Schmitt, an original cosponsor of the Protect College Sports Act, drafted the legislation with Chairman Ted Cruz (R-TX), Ranking Member Maria Cantwell (D-WA), and Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) and spoke at the Commerce Committee hearing on the importance of passing the bill earlier this month.
