Northern Maine Community College Practical Nursing Program Ranked Among Maine’s Best for 2026
A Northern Maine Community College Practical Nursing graduate receives a nursing pin during the September 2025 pinning ceremony.
Northern Maine Community College's Practical Nursing program has been recognized as one of the top Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) programs in Maine for 2026 by PracticalNursing.org, earning the No. 3 ranking statewide.
PracticalNursing.org is a national resource for nursing education, licensure and career information. Since 2014, the organization has published annual rankings recognizing nursing programs that demonstrate excellence in preparing future nurses through strong academic performance, student outcomes and program quality.
The recognition highlights NMCC's accelerated, simulation-rich curriculum, which prepares graduates with the knowledge, clinical skills and hands-on experience needed to meet the healthcare needs of Aroostook County and beyond.
"This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our faculty and the commitment of our students to excellence in nursing education," said Andrew Gagnon, department chair of Nursing, EMS and Allied Health at Northern Maine Community College. "Our Practical Nursing program is designed to provide students with the hands-on experience, clinical knowledge and confidence they need to deliver exceptional patient care. We are proud to be recognized for preparing graduates who are ready to make an immediate impact in the healthcare workforce across northern Maine and beyond."
NMCC's Practical Nursing certificate program is designed to prepare students to become licensed practical nurses. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam upon completion of the program.
For students interested in continuing their education, the program also provides a pathway to an Associate of Science in Nursing, allowing graduates to advance their academic and professional goals.
