Democrats Announce “People’s Town Hall” Blitz During April Recess to Hold GOP Accountable for Budget Scam Ripping Off Working Families Arrow

After completing 71 People's Town Halls in 35 states in the past three weeks alone, the DNC, DCCC, and ASDC continue momentum into the next recess period with expanded target districts

In March, Democrats launched the People's Town Halls campaign to hold Republicans accountable for running away from their constituents. In the past three weeks alone, the DNC, DCCC, and ASDC have worked alongside state parties nationwide to host 71 People's Town Halls in 35 states. Now, as Republicans prepare to vote on a budget resolution that would threaten Social Security and Medicare, cut jobs for veterans, put health care and food assistance on the chopping block, and enable the Trump-Musk agenda as it wrecks the economy and threatens families, Democrats are teaming up over the April recess to host five new town halls to call out House Republicans in target districts who've refused to meet with their constituents in-person, including:

  • Arizona's 6th Congressional District on April 13th, represented by Republican Rep. Juan Ciscomani
  • Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District "Good Trouble Festival" on April 22nd, represented by Republican Rep. Rob Bresnahan
  • Colorado's 8th Congressional District on April 24th, represented by Republican Rep. Gabe Evans
  • North Carolina's 9th Congressional District on April 24th represented by Republican Rep. and NRCC Chair Richard Hudson
  • Missouri's 2nd Congressional District on April 25th, represented by Republican Rep. Ann Wagner

Democratic elected officials attending People's Town Halls this recess period include New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost, and Texas Congressman Greg Casar.

Voters across the country are furious, and instead of facing their constituents, Republicans are avoiding hosting in-person town halls because NRCC Chair Richard Hudson told them to hide. If Richard Hudson won't meet with his constituents and is advising other Republicans to do the same, Democrats will do it for him and host a People's Town Hall in NRCC Chair Hudson's own district this recess period.

DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:

"In the first three weeks holding 'People's Town Halls,' we've already convened 71 events in 35 states. And here's the upshot: Democrats are listening, Republicans are cowering, and folks are as fired up as I've ever seen. In both red and blue communities, people are sick and tired of Donald Trump and Elon Musk destroying the economy, threatening health care and Social Security, and making life worse for families. In April, we're doubling down with leading Democratic voices joining even more town halls in key districts across the country. Republicans still want to pretend like their constituents don't exist, but we believe Americans deserve to have their voices heard."

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene issued the following statement:

"There's a reason voters across the House battlefield are attending the 'People's Town Halls' in droves: they are sick and tired of being ignored by House Republicans who refuse to do their jobs and fail to meet with their own constituents. While vulnerable Republicans continue to run scared because they're voting to raise costs, gut Medicaid, and threaten working families livelihoods, we're going to make sure voters know they don't have to wait until Election Day to hold them accountable."

ASDC Chair Jane Kleeb issued the following statement:

"Our People's Town Halls have been a rousing success and I'm so proud of all of our Democratic state parties that have answered the call and hosted events where Republicans continue to hide. We have the momentum: As we enter the April recess period, Republicans are on the back foot, losing and underperforming special elections, seeing their polling numbers drop, and pushing through an unpopular budget bill while Trump and Musk continue to tank the economy. The ASDC will continue to deliver our message straight to people across this country. We're on offense and we'll keep driving until we take back the House in 2026."

In the past three weeks alone, the DNC, DCCC, and ASDC have:

  • Hosted 71 People's Town Halls across 35 states and territories.
  • Hit venue capacities at nearly every town hall event.
  • Seen tens of thousands of people show up to these town halls in urban, suburban, and rural districts alike.
  • Consistently had more attendance than registrants at town halls.
