ICE captures 14 illegal aliens during Operation Fresh Catch in Northern Michigan

DETROIT - ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Detroit and the U.S. Forest Service arrested 14 illegal aliens from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico during Operation Fresh Catch in the Cadillac and Manistee areas of Northern Michigan Oct.10.

ICE officers conducted the operation after U.S. Forest Service officers reported finding an increased number of fishing violations by foreign nationals without proper identification.

"ERO will continue working with the U.S. Forest Service and other law enforcement partners to safeguard Michigan's public lands, protect natural resources and uphold federal immigration laws," said ERO Detroit Field Office Director Matthew Putra. "Our coordinated efforts promote public safety and help ensure that those who violate immigration laws are held accountable."

All individuals were transported to the North Lake Processing Center, where they will remain pending further immigration proceedings.

Of the 14 illegal aliens arrested during the operation:

  • One has a DUI conviction
  • Three are reinstated final orders who have been deported from the U.S. previously
  • One is an immigration absconder who now has a final order of removal
  • Another failed to depart the United States voluntarily and has now been issued a final order of removal
  • All were in violation of U.S. immigration laws

Consistent with the Trump administration's immigration enforcement and public safety priorities, ICE will continue to identify, arrest and remove illegal aliens who violate U.S. immigration law.
