Work resumes on Route 8 bridge project in Washington County

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Following a work stoppage, construction resumed today, Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, on the Washington County bridge deck rehabilitation project on Missouri Route 8 over the Union Pacific Railroad. Work was stopped following a work site incident on Nov. 10, and a subsequent investigation by MoDOT, the contractor, Union Pacific Railroad and OSHA. Last week the contractor conducted work site assessments, before bringing crews in this week to resume the project in earnest. They continue to finish the first half of the bridge, with the goal of switching traffic to the new bridge on Friday, Feb. 20. During this second phase of work, traffic will continue to be narrowed to a single lane controlled by temporary signals, as it has been throughout the project and work stoppage.

Pending weather or other complications, the contractor has set a goal of completing the project in April 2026.
