The City of Woodland, along with project partners, invites you to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Woodland Regional Park Preserve on Saturday, May 17 from 10 AM - 2 PM. Please enter at the intersection of 102 and 25A.
The Woodland Regional Park Preserve has transformed a retired landfill site into a 160-acre nature park that has enhanced local wetland, plant, and wildlife resources and continues to support educational programs. The Park Preserve's proximity to several public schools, Woodland Community College, and residential neighborhoods makes it a convenient education and nature outlet, easily accessible for Woodlanders and Yolo County residents.
May 17's Grand Opening will celebrate the culmination of years of work to deliver this important community asset. After an opening ceremony at 10:15 AM, the event will feature several activities and attractions, including:
Note that this site is a preserve, and no dogs or other pets are allowed (service animals excepted).
To date, more than $1.5 million in grants from California State Parks, the Wildlife Conservation Board, and several other funding agencies have enabled construction of a permanent and seasonal wetland; riparian planting; a half-mile ADA accessible nature trail; two ADA parking spaces; signage, including a kiosk; docent, citizen science, and formal education programs; and other improvements. In the past months, work began on the forthcoming Rotary Pavilion, a covered observation deck that will overlook the pond from the West.
Other key nonprofit partners that have made contributions to the development and maintenance of the Park include the California Waterfowl Association, Conaway Preservation Group, multiple local Rotary Clubs, Sierra Club, Woodland Community College, Woodland Tree Foundation, Woodland Joint Unified School District, Yolo Community Foundation, Yolo Audubon Society, Yolo County RCD, and Yolo County Office of Education.
