Rep. Vasquez Votes to Protect Pregnant Students’ Access to Care and Resources, Upholding Pro-Choice Record

WASHINGTON, D.C.- On January 22, 2026, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02)upheld his pro-choice voting record by rejecting a billthat would strip federal funding from colleges and universities that ensure pregnant students receive full and accurate information about their health care options under Title IX.

"Abortion is health care, and every woman must have the right to make her own health care decisions," said Rep. Vasquez. "MAGA extremists are hellbent on taking away this fundamental right, this time by limiting students' ability to understand all their options. Let's get back to addressing the soaring costs facing families in this country and focus on health care solutions, not more barriers to access."

Rep. Vasquez is firmly committed to protecting reproductive freedom in this country and has consistently voted to protect women's right to make their own health care decisions in consultation with their doctors and their faith, including:

  • Rep. Vasquez championed the Right to Contraception Act (H.R. 999), which safeguards an individual's right to access and use contraceptives and ensures health care providers can offer contraception and related services without political interference.
  • Rep. Vasquez supported the Women's Health Protection Act (H.R. 12), which prohibits government-imposed restrictions on abortion care and protects access to reproductive health services nationwide.
  • Rep. Vasquez backed H.Res. 238, which affirms that every person has a basic right to emergency health care - including abortion care - and reinforces federal protections so patients and doctors can make lifesaving decisions without fear or confusion.
