T-Bone Crash Injures Lincoln Police Officer and Driver

Published on January 11, 2025

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating a T-bone crash that sent a police officer and a 36-year-old Lincoln man to the hospital in northwest Lincoln.

On Friday, January 10, around 10:30 p.m., a Lincoln police officer was responding Code 3, driving with lights and sirens on, to assist another officer on a call for service. The cruiser was traveling south on N. 27th Street as it approached the intersection with 'W' Street. A red sedan facing east on 'W' Street stopped at the stop sign before proceeding into the intersection, where the two vehicles collided.

An off-duty LPD officer heard the crash as he was walking to his personal vehicle and then learned of the collision over the police radio. He drove to the scene and found the officer involved immediately trying to render aid and extricate the other driver. He relieved the officer and began assisting the other driver.

The driver was extricated from his vehicle by Lincoln Fire & Rescue and taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The involved officer was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Those with information can call our non-emergency number at 402-441-6000 or if you would like to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
