The much-loved playground has been at the heart of the local community for five decades, providing generations of children with opportunities to play, explore, learn new skills and make lasting memories. Landport Adventure Playground is one of 6 adventure playgrounds across the city.
Current visitors, former playworkers, volunteers, parents, supporters and local residents joined in to celebrate this important milestone and reflect on the playground's rich history and community impact.
Children enjoyed everything the playground had to offer, including slides, climbing structures, tyre swings, play areas, indoor games and a sand pit. The celebration featured arts and crafts activities, a "make your own honking horn" workshop, balloon modelling, face painting, a community disco, refreshments, and the creation of a special time capsule. All topped off with a magical visit from the Pride of Portsmouth unicorn. A photo display also showcased the playground's journey over the past 50 years.
Cllr Darren Sanders, Cabinet Member for Housing and Tackling Homelessness, said:
"For 50 years, Landport Adventure Playground has been much more than a place to play. It has been a place where friendships have been formed, confidence has grown and generations of local children and families have come together as part of a strong community.
"This milestone is a chance to celebrate the incredible people who have supported the playground over the years, from staff and volunteers to the families who have made it such a special place. We are proud of the role Landport Adventure Playground continues to play in bringing our community together and creating opportunities for children to learn, explore and thrive."
