City of Abilene Public Notice: Water Supply is Safe

The City of Abilene Water Utilities Department is aware of a recent media report suggesting a potential waterborne illness in the Big Country region. We want to assure our residents that Abilene's public water supply is safe to drink and meets or exceeds all state and federal water quality standards.

It is important to clarify that the samples referenced in the report were collected from the wastewater treatment plant, not from the City's drinking water supply or water distribution system. Wastewater is collected after it has been used in homes and businesses and does not reflect the quality or safety of the treated drinking water delivered to our customers.

The City of Abilene maintains adequate disinfection levels throughout the drinking water system and conducts rigorous, routine testing to ensure water quality and safety. There have been no violations or signs of contamination in our drinking water system.

We understand concerns may arise during illness outbreaks, but there is no evidence linking Abilene's drinking water to any recent gastrointestinal illnesses.
