Responding to the Growth of Artificial Intelligence

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more than just a buzzword, it's impacting the way that we all do business. While there are nearly endless possibilities with this technology, understanding how to responsibly implement AI tools and strategy is vital for organizations in 2026.

Michigan Engineering Online & Professional Education (ME-OPE) supports businesses and individuals who want to grow their AI knowledge. By offering access to experts from industry and academia through short certificate courses, customized company training, and degree programs, Michigan Engineering is preparing today's workforce for tomorrow's challenges.

Improving Business Outcomes with Custom Training

Earlier this year, General Motors sought an education partner to train its employees in AI strategy. Michigan Engineering's ability to offer world-class instruction in a flexible format made their decision easy. GM worked with ME-OPE to design a several-month, remote-live course that develops their employees' AI strategy skills.

"The pilot cohort brings together individuals representing GM's engineering, manufacturing, and IT communities. As part of the learning focus, participants will build a shared enterprise AI language, explore topics including analytics and large language models, and develop capstone roadmaps tied to business-relevant opportunities - creating a stronger pipeline of implementation-ready ideas for the future." - Representative from GM

Specialized Skill Growth with Online Degrees

Industry's demand for AI knowledge is growing by the month. Michigan Engineering is responding to this need by launching a new Artificial Intelligence MEng program. Individual departments will offer unique concentrations to encourage specialized skill growth

"This new graduate degree combines the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and machine learning with engineering domain knowledge and will allow students to deepen their AI skills within engineering constraints and propel their careers in tomorrow's workforce." - Professor Vineet Kamat, PhD

Flexible Training to Meet an Increasing Demand

In response to a projected 20.10% increase in demand for AI skills in the coming years (Lightcast Labor Market Analytics), professionals are seeking training. Michigan Engineering Professional Education offers multiple certificate courses focused on AI use and strategy.

"AI is one of the most transformative technologies of our lifetime, but its true impact will depend on the values of the people building and deploying it. We are already seeing AI reshape healthcare, education, manufacturing, cybersecurity, accessibility, and the future of work. It has the potential to help solve some of humanity's biggest challenges, but only if we lead with responsibility, inclusion, and human-centered design." - Instructor Lisa Thee

Looking to the Future

AI is disrupting business processes and outcomes in nearly every industry. But disruption can lead to positive change. Professionals and organizations who are trained and prepared for this new and changing reality can thrive. For those ready to take the next steps with AI training, Michigan Engineering is here, offering support.
